ABOUT
Wood Recycling Scotland Ltd is part of the Harper group of companies
Established in 1979 by Bryan Harper, Harper Contracts Insch Ltd (HCI)
started as a haulage company in the round timber industry. By the late
1980s, the business expanded to a fleet of 15 trucks delivering roundwood across Scotland and northern England. Today, Bryan Harper directs
four companies: HCI, Loghaul Ltd, Wood Recycling Scotland Ltd (WRS),
and Puffin Energy Ltd.
Key Milestones:
-
1993: Initiated whole tree chipping to address harvesting challenges, supplying wood chips to West Fraser Europe.
-
2000: Began wood fuel production at West Fraser Europe’s Dalcross
-
facility, using scrap board to reduce gas usage.
-
2002: Launched wood recycling, processing waste wood for
-
particle board production at West Fraser, Stirling through WRS.
-
2005: Explored wood-based fuel alternatives for domestic and
-
industrial use, leading to the formation of Puffin Energy Ltd in 2007.
-
Puffin Energy now produces high-quality wood pellets, Briquettes and Firewood.
WRS stands as one of Scotland's largest wood recyclers, serving as the
primary supplier of recycled wood to the esteemed West Fraser Europe
board mill in Cowie, Stirling. Being adjacent to West Fraser Europe allows for seamless integration of materials directly into the manufacturing process, eliminating the need for external processing. This operational efficiency results in time savings, decreased handling and transportation, lower emissions and costs.
Notably, West Fraser is recognized as a Carbon Neutral producer,
specialising in the creation of high-quality flooring board. Utilising panel
board made from recycled wood in the construction industry actively
promotes the adoption of low-carbon alternatives over steel and concrete which causes the highest percentage of C02 in the construction industry.
